2024-2025 Season: Visions

Music that sees beyond what is to what could be.

For our 13th season, La Caccina sings of visionaries - those who see past their present circumstances to imagine a world of greater justice, equity, and peace. This three-concert season invites audiences to celebrate the courage and determination of Joan of Arc with The Lark, revel in the music of groundbreaking women composers throughout history - including, for the first time, our namesake - in Francesca and Friends, and hear their own stories arranged and sung by members of the ensemble in Lifeline: Clairvoyance. Read on to discover why this La Caccina season is not to be missed!

The Lark

La Caccina’s first concert of the season honors the extraordinary vision of Joan of Arc, a young woman whose faith and courage have become legendary. The program is centered around Leonard Bernstein’s The Lark, an eight-movement work written for the 1955 adaptation of Jean Anouilh’s play by the same name, and newly-arranged for treble voices by La Caccina’s Artistic Director, Carling FitzSimmons. To complement Bernstein’s iconic music, La Caccina sings pieces by Carlos Cordero, Aurora Aksnes, Darius Lim, Marie-Claire Saindon, Marques L. A. Garrett, and others, as well as a new commission from Venezuelan composer/conductor Mariana Romero Serra. Share in the excitement of this ancient story, sung by La Caccina through Joan’s steady gaze.

Francesca and Friends

Our second concert of the season uplifts the women composers throughout history whose music continues to break new ground. This includes Madeline Clara Cheng, our 2024-2025 Young Composer-in-Residence, whose piece will be premiered at this concert. Also featuring works by Hildegard von Bingen, Lili Boulanger, Missy Mazzoli, Jocelyn Hagen, Margaret Bonds, and - for the first time in La Caccina’s history - Francesca Caccini, this program celebrates the visionary creativity of history’s often-overlooked icons.

La Caccina is especially excited to collaborate with OLEA Ensemble - an instrumental trio of clarinet, violin, and piano - for this concert.

Lifeline: Clairvoyance

Back by popular demand, La Caccina closes our season with a new iteration of our audience-favorite Lifeline series, where we collect songs and stories from our audiences and sing them back in brand-new arrangements by members of the ensemble. This year, La Caccina sings your stories of clairvoyance - songs that helped you move on, move out, or move to a new phase of life.
